The NSW North West region recently had the distinct honor of hosting a two-day visit from the Consul General of India, Janakiraman Sarvesvaran. This visit with Michael Sharpe, Irfan Malik and Kate McGrath along with key regional stakeholders and business leaders, provided an invaluable platform for fostering international business relations and exploring new economic opportunities. The event brought together a diverse array of businesses, community leaders, and educational institutions, highlighting the region's dynamic economic landscape and its potential for growth and innovation.
The first day of the visit was packed with insightful business tours, starting in Gunnedah and extending to Tamworth. The itinerary included engagements with several prominent local businesses:

This event, hosted by Business NSW - New England North West and Regional Director Diane Gray, featured a Q&A session with the Consul General, Irfan Malik (MAICD) from the Australia India Business Council, and Michael Sharpe from the AUKUS Forum. The session facilitated a rich exchange of ideas on enhancing business collaboration between Australia and India, particularly in the manufacturing sector.

The UNE SMART Region Incubator hosted a panel discussion for founders and students, providing a platform to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and innovation in the region. This was followed by a lunch featuring local delights, where Aliethea Cutmore introduced guests to unique regional flavors such as wattle seed scones, lemon myrtle cream, and kangaroo sausage rolls. These culinary offerings not only showcased the region's rich agricultural produce but also celebrated its cultural heritage.

Michael Sharpe and Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla talked with local industry leaders at AgQuip. The former NSW Australian of the Year, Prof Veena is one of our nation's leading engineers and is the Director of the Australian Government's Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub. In collaboration with local community leader, Kate McGrath the trio hosted a manufacturing roundtable in Gunnedah.
The trio were joined by Federal Agriculture Minister, Murray Watt MP and Federal Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, Tim Ayres MP where they were able to connect local industry leaders with leading politicians to share insights and opportunities for advanced manufacturing, research and development works and collaboration efforts to help boost regional efforts.
Small Business Ombudsman, the Hon Bruce Billson, also joined the manufacturing roundtable to meet with locals and share insights for small business across Australia. The attendee companies included Boss Engineering from Inverell, OSM Portable Buildings from Dubbo, SierraTek from Narrabri, PhotoCreate from Glen Innes, Many Fabrication at Gunnedah and Apollo Engineering with Vest-Water from Tamworth.

Michael Sharpe is co-hosting a special invitation only event during AgQuip to talk advanced manufacturing. The manufacturing roundtable will include leading manufacturing companies from across North West NSW including Boss Engineering from Inverell and Apollo Engineering at Tamworth.
Special guests include Federal Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, Hon Tim Ayres MP and 2022 NSW Australian of the Year, Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla - one of our nations leading engineers.
We will be joined by the NSW Modern Manufacturing Commissioner, Lisa Emerson, along with local Gunnedah manufacturing firms including Many Fabrication, Prides Easifeed and the Carrol Cotton Gin. The University of New England will be represented by the UNE Smart Region Incubator and Local Government representatives will include the Country Mayors Association.
